
Manchester Modernist Society and the North West Film Archive at MMU present a curated programme of archive films in the Manchester Art Gallery Lecture Theatre on the third Thursday in the month. Screenings are FREE to attend.
Autumn / Winter programme
18th October - A City Speaks, 1947
The screening will be introduced by MMU Professor Alan Kidd, an expert on regional history and author of Manchester: A History. A City Speaks was commissioned by Manchester City Council in 1944 as both a response to the Manchester Blitz and subsequent plans for post-war restoration, and to encourage civic awareness and pride. In 1945, the city published a detailed plan for reconstruction including housing, transport and urban zoning.
15th November - The Changing Face of Salford
Michael Goodger’s trilogy of films charting the changing character of Ordsall in the late 1960s.
